Rite 13

Rite 13 is a journey from childhood to manhood and womanhood (adulthood).  In this Sunday School Forum, five of our young Church members (11-13 year old middle school children) explore concepts of being made in the image of God.  In the first year this included discussions of their identity as children of God, our relationships to God.  They participated in a movie night at the Church in the context of images of God and relationships to God and others. In the second year of the two year curriculum, they are focusing on Compassion and Acts of Mercy, Decisions and Faith and Trust.  This includes service to others, which they demonstrated by participation in the Crop Walk.  They are currently discussing decision making, which includes contemporary topics which interest/concern them (eg, drugs, poverty, current community and world events) in a faith context.  They have prepared hot chocolate mix (marshmallows included!) and chocolate pie mixes to sell at the bazaar, with funds going to St. Clements.

This year will culminate with a ceremony recognizing their transition to more mature stature in the Church family.  The next step for these youth will be the Journey to Adulthood Program which leads to confirmation.  Team leaders are Barb and Scott Folsom, with assists from Molly Douglass and Michael Seeds.
